About the "How It Works In Practice" Series of Articles
You've probably already looked at our FAQs to learn the basics. You now know what visas are for which purpose, and you may even have a general sense of what the possibilities might be for someone with a specific background being sponsored for a particular job.
The How It Works In Practice series of articles walks you through several hypothetical - but very common - situations to see how this all comes together in the real world. We follow each case study from the decision to come to the U.S. through grant of permanent residence, often throwing in some "detours" - hurdles that may appear in cases occasionally, such as unexpected layoffs or difficulties obtaining nonimmigrant visa stamps due to youthful indiscretions returning to haunt an applicant.
Remember that some types of jobs which are not discussed here may still follow similar pathways to permanent residence as those discussed in one or more of the articles. On the other hand, just because a foreign national has a career comparable to one of the careers discussed in these articles does not mean that the most appropriate immigration pathway will be the same as the one here described. This is why every situation needs to be evaluated by a qualified immigration attorney. If you want to know more about the mechanics of a specific case, ask us!
